Avignon

Our apartment is on the top floor (Level 3) and can be accessed from 2 streets, each with their own gate. Once through the gate there is another gate to access before gaining entry to the building and the lift.

And returning from the other entrance

From our windows we overlook Palais des Papes, including statue of Mary and a Palais tower.

Decided to beat the heat and head over the bridge to the other side of the Rhone River for some pictures of the town. Turned out we weren’t the only people there …annual Expo displaying various organisations and activities for children. And I find the sycamore trees absolutely magnificent … whoever planted them years ago were very smart people. They provide a magnificent ‘show’, plus valuable shade on hot summer’s days.

How could anyone get tired of this wonderful view of Avignon, including Palais des Papes and Pont d’Avignon! Can’t get Sur le Pont d’Avignon out of my head now! 🎶

As we were heading back over the bridge a very kind lady took a pic for us!

By this time the temperature had reached 30 and we were in need of shade and a rest. Into the town for coffee and found a pastel de nata (Portuguese tart) to accompany our coffee.

Came across Saint Didier church on our way back to the apartment … it could tell a few stories as it was constructed between 1356-1359!
