Ručigaj-Majcen-Roberts BBQ
On Saturday we drove to Celje for the family BBQ at Ricky’s house (Urh’s uncle).
Urh’s mum is Ksenija Majcen and dad is Bojan Ručigaj, hence the surnames.
Upon arrival at Ricky’s it was Rikija time … of course! A small plum schnapps at 40-44% proof! Very good for the digestion they say! Basically, alcohol has medicinal benefits for any ailment or condition in Slovenia! 🤣 And after we finished eating, another Rikija as it cuts through the meat and once again, aids digestion!!
BBQ very similar to NZ with plenty of meat, salads and dessert, plus starter plates and bread.
The specialty being Čevapčiči - very much like a kofta - could be plain beef or mixed with pork depending on which country you are in. Čevapčiči can found across all Balkan countries.
A great day for young and old!
Sunday
Today we drove to Lake Bohinj and hired paddle boards for 90 minutes. Lakec Bohinj is 526m above sea level and is Slovenia’s largest lake. Note: I did spend most of my time standing!
Had a fantastic time paddling around the lake with magnificent backdrops! Plus a couple of swims due to some over-balancing. The water was a very refreshing 19 degrees!
Then drove to Lake Bled about 20 minutes away. Bled is one of Slovenia’s main tourist attractions. After our paddle boarding we were quite happy to sit and take in the scenery before heading back to Ljubljana. Will certainly sleep very well tonight! I’m sure Rikija is good for sleep too! 🤣
Blimey folks - you are good to have to detox when home. Gorgeous scenery.
