Ljubljana
Yesterday we walked to the Museum of Modern Art - a 15 minute walk from the apartment.
There is a very cool cafe at the Museum and we had a coffee before entering the gallery. We saw this woman sitting on the windowsill as we arrived and thought what an interesting sitting place! Well, turned out she worked at the cafe and that is how she got the orders outside - through the window!! (see photo)
This morning we walked up to the the castle before breakfast. What made it even more pleasant was the temperature… walked out of the apartment into 17C … so refreshing and much more enjoyable than 30+. 👏 By the time we got back to the apartment it was 21 with an expected high of 27. I know back home people will think we are nuts (crazy!) going on about the temperatures here … but until you have experienced high temperatures day after day, plus throw in humidity, it is physically draining and very tiring. Just as well we are not working!! 🤣
12.30pm
Walked back into the old town and found tacos for lunch on the castle-side of the river.
The Commune
Prior to the Yugoslavian separation (break up) in 1991, these were the barracks of the Yugoslavian Army. When Slovenia went to war in June 25, 1991, the Yugoslavian Army refused to leave the barracks.
After approximately one month Slovenia signed a peace deal and the Yugoslavian Army gradually left the barracks. The council didn’t know what to do with the empty barracks so they signed a deal with activists (who had been surrounding the barracks) that allowed them to use them. They are still there today and refuse to move!
