Winery & Vrsar

 To avoid any confusion, we are currently staying in the Valkanela Campsite in Croatia. 🇸🇮 Around 180km from Ljubljana. 

Yesterday we went to the Matošević Winery for tastings.  


Lovely setting and great service. Tastings were advertised at €7 per person. Had 9 generous tastings then we bought a few bottles to take with us. Not only did they not charge us for the tastings, but they gave us a bottle when we left! Now that’s what I call service! 👏

Went into Vrsar for dinner. Gorgeous Croatian town that reminded us of Split, but on a much smaller scale. The restaurant was very busy, but once again great service and yummy food! Anne and I ordered the grilled squid and bass - delicious!! 😋 And to finish off … complimentary rakija! I could get used to this life style! 

After dinner a decent walk up the hill for post dinner cocktails. However, by the time we got there I was sweating and in need of a cool beer! I left the cocktails to Anne and the others.

Today we drove into Poreć to the market for fresh fish for dinner. Interesting that it is not common to fillet the fish here. We asked if they would fillet the bass and they said, “No”. 

Went to the other side of the shop and they said, “Yes”. 😅

 Met Olivia’s girlfriend Kate at cafe near Highbury Fields then made our way through the park to the Stadium.  A lovely warm day with 22 degrees, not bad for the 1st of October! Arrived at the Stadium for Women’s Arsenal v Liverpool. Had no idea of what to expect. Not sure about these apartment buildings? Don’t quite seem to fit in with the local landscape … but perhaps that is progress?  Kia ora koutou. Welcome to my blog, hope to keep you updated and informed during the next 4 months on our journey across Europe and the UK. Fingers crossed I can keep you updated on my iPhone and I am able to upload photos to the blog. 🤞 Not long to go now! We fly out 10.50am Thursday 13 July from Christchurch - Singapore - Milan.  It has taken me all this time to summon up the energy and the will to complete the last post of our wonderful journey. The Paris-Singapore leg was fantastic with both of us sleeping and waking up only 3.5 hours from Changi Airport! Approaching Changi we were informed there was congestion and we would be in a holding pattern ... after 30-40 minutes, we diverted to Johor Bahru in Malaysia as we were running out of fuel. This was only a journey of 60km, but we ended up spending 2.5 hours waiting for the plane to be refuelled then back to Changi. By this time we had missed our connecting flight to Christchurch. Singapore Airlines were very organised and had our boarding passes ready for us for Auckland-Christchurch. Although by this stage we only had 45 minutes to get from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 and Gate 29. For those of you familiar with Changi, you will know the sheer size of the place.
