Rogla - Smogavc (Slovenia)

 A very traditional Slovenian 🇸🇮 day yesterday. Drove from Ljubljana to Celje (approx 50 min) - Urh’s home town and where his extended family live. We met Uros (uncle) and travelled in his car to the Treetop Walk at Rogla, about 40 minutes from Celje in the mountains towards Austria (1500m above sea level).

Note: temperature at Rogla was 16 degrees, we left Celje in 25 degrees. Never thought we would be so happy to be in cooler temperatures! 

As usual the compulsory coffee-fix, and also some liquore tasting, enjoyed the blueberry 🫐, which is a local specialty. Uros kindly gave me a bottle to enjoy at a later date!

Then on to the walkway and the 37 metre tower. 

Then the fun part … a 60m steel tube slide, twisting and turning around the 37m tower … quite a bit of yelling and screaming as you could imagine!

Time then for a traditional Slovenian lunch at Smogavc. Most of the food was produced locally. Started with a platter of salami, ham, pate, cheese and pickled mushrooms.  Next course the broths (soup) x 3, followed by main courses of steak, pork and ghoulash. By this stage the intention of a blueberry struddle each had well and truly diminished … ended up sharing one struddle between the 4 of us, which was plenty!

After all this food, we then drove back to Celje for more food and drink at Ricky’s, another uncle of Urh. I was thinking a quiet beer to start but Ricky said we must start with Rikija , a plum liquore at 40% alcohol  Finally got my beer after 2 Rikija! Arrived back in Ljubljana around 10pm, this holidaying caper can be hard work! 

A great day in the Slovenian mountains and a family gathering to finish the day! Hvala
